After 19 extraordinary years, the time has come to close Maya—a decision made with both clarity and love.
Back in December, I began simplifying the brand, feeling a deep pull to return to what originally lit me up: creative flow, meaningful connection, and a way of working that supports my well-being and that of my team. As the industry has expanded and sped up, I’ve come to see that the scale Maya reached no longer reflects how I want to build, lead, or live. I want to feel close to my work again—with more time, presence, and freedom.
I was prepared for the financial challenges this shift would bring, but I couldn’t have anticipated the perfect storm of rising gold costs and global economic strain. We’ve always paid our manufacturing team above a living wage, and competing with global labor pricing just isn’t something I’m open to. And so, with grace and deep respect for everything Maya has been, I’m letting go—honoring both the integrity of the brand and the values it was built on.
We shared a soft announcement with our beloved resale and VIP clients in late summer, giving them first access to our remaining inventory. Thank you for holding this news with care and for the outpouring of love and support—it’s another reminder of why I’ve cherished every moment of working with you.
This choice isn’t rooted in loss—it’s rooted in alignment. I’ve spent 33 fantastic years in this industry—as a piercer, a designer, and as the founder of both The One Project and Maya. The threads of this work live deep in my soul, and they’ve woven a foundation I’ll continue to build from when the time feels right.
While this chapter is closing, I’m leaving a small window open—for possibility, for a future spark, or for something I can’t yet name. But for now, this is a wholehearted pause.
Thank you for the wildest, most beautiful adventure of my life.
With all my love and deepest gratitude,
Corey
